[/justify]TEN LIKES .the outdoors, camping, his mother's cooking (especially her stew), adrenaline, the occasional cigarette, dogs, literature, intelligence, shooting guns, extreme sports (rock climbing and skydiving, in particular)
NINE DISLIKES .drinking to get drunk, most pets, american beer, small, cramped places, uncleanliness, sleeping in, organized religion, arrogance and ignorance, video games
EIGHT PERSONALITY TRAITS .01. DETERMINED → When Malachi gets something in his head, he won't stop until the goal is completed. He's very goal-oriented and once he decides he needs to do something, he's relentless and persistent.
02. STUBBORN → Walking hand-in-hand with his determination, is his stubbornness. As soon as he thinks a certain thing or a certain way, it's very difficult for someone to convince him otherwise. When he doesn't know much about a topic, he's surprisingly open-minded; but when he develops his opinions, they're as good as set in stone.
03. STRONG & SILENT → For the most part, Malachi likes to keep to himself. He'd rather not be bothered, especially by those he finds less than appealing. In most situations, he's not the first one to initiate conversation and if he does find himself involved in small talk, he won't say very much. Unless, of course, the person has something to say that actually interests him.
04. AGGRESSIVE → Malachi is not the type to take things lightly if someone gets in his way. He doesn't act irrationally and keeps a level head on his shoulders, but he's not scared of showing dominance and aggression when he needs to, Seeing as he was once a police officer, he'll keep the peace in any way he can, including exerting his strength over someone else, if need be.
05. COMPASSIONATE → As impossible as it may seem, Malachi really does have a compassionate and friendly streak. He shows his compassion in different ways than most people, but he truly does care. He'd do absolutely anything to protect his daughter, Carson. As a police officer, he cared about the citizens and now, as a security guard, he truly cares about keeping the bands, crew and staff out of harm.
06. CONFIDENT → Some may say that Malachi is even overconfident. He's particularly deliberate about his decision-making, looking at it from every angle, but once he does, he believes that's the way it should be done. He's very confident in himself and his opinions, and won't often stop to listen to other peoples' ideas.
07. INTELLIGENT → Malachi has always been too smart for his own good. He knows a lot about an array of things and a little about everything else. School had never been very hard for him and beyond that, he kept seeking out resources to learn more about everything. He never runs his mouth about anything he doesn't know about and can talk circles around lots of people.
08. FEARLESS → To him, fear had been a useless emotion right from the get go. He was always the type to be pushing his limits and even now, at forty-one, he hasn't slowed down yet. He's an adrenaline addict who can't remember the last time fear stopped him from doing something. If anything, the only thing that's scared him over the course of his life were things that had to do with his daughter: seeing her get hurt, dying and leaving her with nothing, etc.
SEVEN THINGS ON HIS PERSON .01. his cellphone
02. his wallet (with an old picture of carson inside)
03. a pack of cigarettes (just in case)
04. a folding knife, since he can't carry a gun on him
05. a ring on his right hand that bears his family crest
06. an irish coin that has proven to be his good luck charm
07. a chain with a dog tag around his neck, that state his name and rank for the Garda Síochána na hÉireann in Dublin
SIX HABITS .01. cracks his knuckles
02. taps his foot when he's concentrating
03. bites the ends of his fingers when he's nervous
04. lines everything up just so before he does something (mostly prominent during down time)
05. finds things to chew on while he's reading
06. writes with the paper a 90 degree angle away from him
FIVE VOICEMAILS .01. "Malachi, this isn't fair to me. [pause] Okay, maybe what I did wasn't fair either, but at least we kept in contact with you. Call me. Err-- no, get Carson to call me." -- left by Carson's mother, shortly after Malachi & Carson left for tour
02. "Oi! Malachi! I get you leavin' an' all, but I don't get you not keepin' in contact. An' you're not gettin' a free pass outta the ting wi' mum 'cuz you're in America." -- left by Malachi's brother
03. "Malachi, it's gettin' serious. We need ya to at least be involved." -- left by Malachi's brother
04. "" -- left by his daughter, Carson
05. "When's the next time you'll be in Dublin? Lookin' for another ale and champ night!" -- left by one of Malachi's friends
FOUR LIFE-CHANGING EVENTS .01. THE RIFT BETWEEN MALACHI & MOM → As much as it may not seem like it, Malachi is extremely family-oriented. Growing up, there wasn't anything he didn't do for his younger brother and his two parents. Through high school, he'd give his pay checks to his parents if they were short on cash and help out in any way he could. He was very close with all three of them all the way through to when he met the first love of his life. His mother didn't like her in the slightest, continually said that she had this nagging feeling that she was wrong for him and to leave her immediately. Regardless, Malachi continued to pursue the girl he'd fallen in love with. That was the beginning of the rift that was put between him and his dear mother. His wedding day was the finishing touch. The two of them never looked at each other the same way again.
02. HIS MARRIAGE → Despite everything that went on between him and his mom during this time, falling in love was still the best it ever got for Malachi. It was an undeniable kind of love - mad, passionate and impossibly real. He felt it deep in his bones and she was absolutely irresistible. The two of them, Malachi and Emily, they were a very unconventional couple. They did things because they could or because they'd been told not to. They flew by the seat of their pants and lived spontaneously in their couple hood. At the time, the idea of marriage seemed like it would only make things better. Even their wedding day was perfect. solidifying both of their beliefs that being husband and wife was the right path.
04. THE BIRTH OF HIS ONLY CHILD → He and his wife had been married for a short six months before they both found out that she was nearly three months pregnant. The news had immediately become the best he'd heard in his life, unmatched by everything else. Although Malachi hadn't even fatherhood much thought, Emily's pregnancy brought out a completely new side to him. He wanted to be a father and the more the baby grew in his wife's belly, the more excited he got. The birth of his daughter was above all else, the best day of his life. He didn't need to hesitate or ponder that question - Carson was certainly the best thing in his life. He willingly wrapped himself around his daughter's finger, fully prepared to stop at nothing to make her happy and protect her with his life.
04. THE DIVORCE → Unfortunately for Malachi and Emily, getting married was the exact wrong thing to do. Sure, the marriage was sweet and blissful for a fair number of years; but they still did wrong. They were an unconventional couple doing conventional things. The marriage was a ticking time bomb, bound to explode. Carson had, of course, brought the two of them closer. But, as time wore on, the little blonde girl they called their daughter was the only reason they even stayed together. Things only got worse from there. Arguments started sparking between them more and more frequently. Eventually, it got to the point where they would barely even speak if they didn't have anything to argue about. For Malachi, though, all Carson needed to do was to tell him that she knew his marriage to her mother wasn't working anymore. He left Emily not long after that, if only to spare his daughter the exposure to a so obviously broken family.
