It had barely begun, but it was doomed to failure. Olivia had spent much of the afternoon hunting down crew that didn't show up for work, making sure that their jobs were done properly, and was now trying to locate a musician that was missing in action. Where they were, she had no clue, but Olivia felt that it was her responsibility to ensure that they were on that stage when they needed to be. And that was in five minutes. Tracking them down herself was going to be impossible, since she had to keep an eye on the backstage area, and since she'd lost track of her assistant in the throngs of people milling around backstage, Olivia knew she didn't have enough time to find two people. And there was no one else she trusted enough to send out into the tour grounds to find the missing guy.
But Olivia was not one to break down in the face of failure. She was standing strong, directing the people around her as best as she could (which included a lot of yelling on her part). She was angry, afraid of letting her superiors down, and taking it out on those she was in charge of. More than anything she wanted to curl up in bed and pretend work didn't exist, but that was giving up. And if there was one thing Olivia didn't do, it was giving up. Other people still had to do their jobs and Olivia had to make sure everything was perfect, though her growing frustration was making that rather hard.
'Well, don't just stand there! You've got jobs to do!' she yelled at a group of sound technicians, standing around and babbling about something Olivia did not care about. Even if it had been something she cared for, like the snack table that was set up backstage, Olivia's attitude would have been the same. A self-satisfied smirk spread across Olivia's lips as they scampered off in surprise, hopefully to do their jobs, or to check that they were done correctly. Everyone else seemed to be working, and after a quick check on her headset for the missing musician resulted in failure, Olivia had to sit down. Her head was pounding, and as she pinched the bridge of her nose, she knew it was going to be a long night.
It was at that moment the musician showed himself. Olivia barely had time to berate him on his lateness before he was given his instrument and shoved towards where his fellow band members were waiting for him. Olivia merely rolled her eyes. She didn't get starstruck around these guys, not normally. They were just part of the job, more people that she had to boss around and make sure that they were set right in order for Olivia to succeed. Unfortunately, because of their enormous egos, most of the musicians decided they'd talk back or ignore Olivia's instructions. Finally, Olivia watched the band take the stage, giving her a moment to relax.
With a sigh, Olivia walked to the snack table. It was half empty, but that was perfectly fine by her. It was only when she took a closer look that she was disappointed to find most of it contained meat of some sort. Grabbing a small sandwich, Olivia sat down, stress rolling off her for the time being. She was too young for so much responsibility, but Olivia had chosen this job for herself, and was determined to make the best of it. Her sandwich finished, she leaned forward burying her face in her hands. All she really wanted was to nap during this set, so she was refreshed and ready to tackle whatever else the night held for her. all grown up and no place to go |

[style=text-align: center] i dare you to move [/style][style=font-size: 10px; line-height: 10px; padding: 25px; margin-top: -10px; color: CCCCCC;] The day had been beyond boring for the young man and it seemed as though the day had only just begun. Even though it was almost nearing time for his band to go up next, he couldn't help but feel completely unstimulated. It didn't help that he had probably over slept, thus waking up late in the afternoon and causing him to feel sluggish all day. He absolutely hated it when he woke up late in the day, feeling as though he had just wasted most of his day. That feelng was probably the wrost for him, especially since he was the type of person who liked to live every moment to its fullest. As he sipped on his coffee, still trying to wake himself up, he was sure that he could just fall asleep if he closed his eyes for two long. At the same time, he knew that, if he tried to fall asleep in his bed and sleep throughout the night, he'd be tossing and turning, not being able to sleep. It was that time that he thought of the meme 'scumbag brain', knowing that was a perfect way to describe the way it was working right about now.
Fortunately, once the show was over and he needed to actually do his job, which was make sure none of the band members get throttled, he knew his adrenaline would get the better of him. He needed to have that rush to get him though, otherwise he knew he would be doing a shitty job at protecting his clients. Obviously, he had grown close with the band and even went above and beyond the call of duty most of the time, so he knew he wouldn't get fired, but it still frieghtened him. In the end, he didn't know what frieghtened him more, losing his job and source of pay, or leaving all of his friends behind. That was just the way that Daniel was, he always put his relationship before money. Sometimes the two went hand in hand, but usually it was friends before cash. It didn't help that the one girl he had a crush on tour would be left behind as well, even though she had no interest in him once so ever. Oh, infatuation. It was cruel thing and Daniel knew first hand how it could break a man. Sometimes it was just moderate, dull pain; but other times he just wanted to get on his hands and knees and beg her to choose him over the guy she was with now.
Just as he started to think of the girl on his mind, she showed up, sitting down on the other side of the snack table. A smirk formed on his lips as he stood up and walked over to her, "Well, don't you just look chipper." he teased before he took a seat beside her. They had talked a couple of times suring the tour, and every time she gave off the vibe that she felt as though he wasn't worth her time. Still, Daniel tried to make conversation with her, determined to make her see him in a better light. He knew that she was a workaholic and always pushed herself too hard, especially went it came to show time, "You want me to push some people around? Take a load off your shoulders?" he asked, giving her a now friendly smile, "You could go have a much deserved rest and get turned on at the sight of me doing my 'oh-so-manly' job." he stated, obviously joking, igivng it away with a soft chuckle, "But seriously, you look like you need to slow down." Sure, one band had made it onto that stage successfully, but there was still so much work to be done. She squeezed her eyes shut, willing herself to just stop thinking. To quit worrying about each and every little thing for just a moment so she could have some peace. But that was impossible, of course. To not worry wouldn't be like Olivia at all. She was made to stress, even over minute things. Problem was, she hated it.
There were so many people she knew who could let things roll of their back endlessly, never troubled by the things that hounded them every day. Olivia was forever envious of carefree people. Not only did they not care about most things, they were content to just coast through life, allowing fate to take them wherever it would. Unfortunately for Olivia, she couldn't do that. No matter how much she wished she could, Olive would forever want to be in control of her life. Having other people make decisions and laying out a path before her was not her style. That was partially the reason she had taken the job of Backstage Manager. It was vastly different to anything her older siblings had done, but not radical enough to be a risky move on her part. She just wished she could handle it better...
Olivia was brought out of her brief reverie by the sound of someone's voice and being aware of them seating their self next to her. She raised her eyes, saw Daniel Archer sitting next to her and had to actually prevent herself from groaning out loud. He was like a puppy the way he popped up unexpectedly and tried to strike up conversations. Of course, he was only being friendly, and the only reason Olivia put up with him was because she was expected to remain on friendly terms with the staff. Even so, she didn't offer much to their conversations except to be polite and oddly formal, but the poor man just didn't take a hint.
"Archer." she said flatly, acknowledging him by nodding and giving him a blank stare. She was under too much strain to rise to his teasing at the current time. It was a shame really, that he chose to waste so much time on her. There were dozens of easier, available girls on tour he could take his pick from, because he really was quite handsome... Olivia stopped that thought in its tracks right then and there. Sure, he was attractive, but he was also incredibly irritating. Olivia thought that the latter trait practically cancelled out the former.
She looked straight ahead as Daniel suggested he push people around, and therefore helping her out backstage. It was kind of him, but not necessary at all. She was just about to thank him for the offer when he went too far. It was clear it was a joke, but even still, it got on her nerves. Her being turned on by him working? Not bloody likely. She let out a laugh, but it was perhaps too harsh sounding to be truly good-natured. "I have a boyfriend, Archer. If I wanted to be turned on, I'd give him a call." It was then that she allowed herself to look back at him, the side of her mouth twitching upwards into a smirk, though she did not lose her air of superiority. Hopefully reminding Daniel that she was unavailable would make him back off, even if it was just a little.
Daniel's last words, however, were very true. Olivia knew she needed a break, but she didn't want to be told that by Daniel Archer of all people. So she just ran her hands over her face, fighting to stay awake and against the urge to yawn. "Shouldn't you be working?" she questioned her unwanted company, her tone accusatory. If there's one thing Olivia couldn't stand, it was a slacker. And even she knew that security was a rather important role when it came to a tour like this. Fans were crazy, and bodyguards and the security team were often the only ones able to keep the bands away from them.

[style=text-align: center] i dare you to move [/style][style=font-size: 10px; line-height: 10px; padding: 25px; margin-top: -10px; color: CCCCCC;]There had been times when Daniel had no idea what the hell he was supposed to do with his life; at some points he really enjoyed being a bodyguard. He loved knowing that people relied on him to keep them safe and that they trusted him to do so, it made him feel useful. Though, at other times he didn't exactly see himself doing something like this for the rest of his life and knew he would probably move on to do something else. Though most people didn't really see it in him, Daniel was actually quite the artist, enjoying doing things like painting and graphic design. Obviously people would think that the contrast was too great to be true, but it was, when he wasn't kicking ass and taking names, he was in his art studio or in his room plucking away at the acoustic guitar. He wasn't the bets player out there and he preferred to play coffee house types of songs, but that didn't mean he didn't dream big. Of course, even though he was usually so outgoing, when it came down to showing his talents, Daniel was very shy because he didn't want people to tell him he was bad at what he loved. Deep down he knew it didn't matter what other people thought, but it was still nerve-wracking, especially since the tour was full of young, talented musicians.
As he took a seat beside Olivia, trying to figure out what could possibly calm her down after what seemed like the end of the world to her, he resorted to his usual outgoing, joking self. His blue eyes stayed on her face as she replied to him in that cold, uninterested tone that cut him deep but he was usually able to shrug off. When it came to Olivia, he knew he couldn't take it personally seeing as she seemed to be cold as stone to everyone but her boyfriend and a select few friends, "Ooph, you don't know how to let a guy down easy, do you?" he questioned before he gave her a friendly smirk, once again telling her that he was joking and that he didn't take it personally, "But, that's fair enough, I was stepping into claimed territory." he added and nodded softly before leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. That was when he saw that smirk on her face and he softly pointed to her face, "Ah! Made you smile." he teased before she asked if he should be working.
"I am working." he explained before he smirked at her, "Do you know how being a bodyguard works?" he asked before he looked towards the side of the stage, "I kind of need a body to protect and, seeing as I can't be on stage with them at all times, I'm just staying alert in case something happens." he explained to her before he looked back at her, "But, if you think I'm slacking off, I could probably help you out with your job, you seem like you could use a hand, like I said." he explained and shrugged softly, "Anything I can help with?" his voice was genuine now, really wanting to help her out. She was largely inexperienced compared to the other tour staff, despite holding similar qualifications to most of them. All of her older siblings had attended college and held successful jobs, with her younger sister holding aspirations of going to medical school. Olivia had intended to get into business once completing college, or perhaps following her parents into law, but when the time came, she had changed her mind completely. She didn't want to spend another however many years of her life working towards something she didn't want. At least, not yet. While deciding how to tell her parents, her uncle had rung to offer her a job working for the record company. Without hesitation, Olivia had jumped at the opportunity, moving to California. Only a few months later, she had signed up for the tour, surprised but please when she was given the role of backstage manager.
How she had landed the job, Olivia didn't know. She played piano since she had been taken along to lessons for much of her youth, but her musical talent wasn't anything to brag about. She certainly wasn't anywhere near the musicians on this tour in terms of instrument proficiency, but perhaps that was what made Olivia able to boss them around without obsessing over the fact that she was working so close to these famous people. She admired their music, sure, but they were far from being her idols.
"Ooph, you don't know how to let a guy down easy, do you?" Olivia rolled her eyes at the sight of his smirk. She liked to think she wouldn't be so harsh with him if he'd only give Olivia her space. But some small part of her knew that wasn't true. Olivia had always been a bit abrupt with others, and tired of their company easily. It was one of the reasons she only had a few friends, and none of them were on this tour. Except for Liam, of course. "Better than giving you false hope." she said calmly, though she resented being called 'claimed territory'. It was ridiculous, really, how everything the young man sitting next to her happened to do, or say, irritated her to no end. She would feel sorry for him, except that by sitting next to her, when he knew that Olivia was bound to be rude to him, Daniel had put himself in this position. If he wanted his head bitten off by Olivia, then so be it. "I wasn't smiling. I was being smug. There's a difference." Olivia protested, leaning over to grab another cup of water from the table beside her.
Asking Daniel whether he should be working or not was an attempt to get him out of her hair, but like most times Olivia tried it, it went straight over the bodyguard's head. She opened her mouth to state that she did, in fact, know how bodyguarding worked, but shut her mouth when Daniel once again asked for help. She hated how he did that. Daniel could make her mad enough to snap at him, but in less than five seconds, Daniel would return to being the nice guy everyone said he was and make Olivia feel guilty. It wasn't fair, but it certainly worked.
Heaving a sigh, Olivia downed the last of the water in her cup, put it in the bin and rose to her feet. "Fine, you can help." she said defeatedly. Fiddling with her headset, she listened in to what was going on, surprised to find everything was going rather well. "Come here, then." she started walking off, not caring whether or not Daniel followed. After rounding a few corners, they arrived behind the stage, where roadies were moving several pieces of equipment in preparation for the next act. "These need to be moved forward." Olivia said over her shoulder to Daniel as she pointed to the over-sized amps that were yet to be moved. Moving away to grab to hand lifting trolley, she wheeled it over. "They're kind of heavy, so it might take both of us to do it." With a shrug, she looked at Daniel for a moment, before putting the trolley under the amps, ready to lift them.

[style=text-align: center] i dare you to move [/style][style=font-size: 10px; line-height: 10px; padding: 25px; margin-top: -10px; color: CCCCCC;]Lately, Daniel had really been growing close to the rest of the people on tour; they seemed to enjoy his company and that's all that Daniel ever really wanted - to be liked. Throughout his life he had been known as 'the nice guy' and he could live with that, in fact he liked it, to an extent. What everyone said about nice guys was true, they always finished last. Every single girl that he ever liked had chosen someone over him, even when they did get to the dating stages. It broke his heart once or twice, but he usually just moved on and carried onto someone else. Daniel wasn't one to grieve for very long periods of time, he knew that life was far too short to waste it being upset. Though, that wasn't to say that Daniel never got upset or angry, in fact, if someone rubbed him the wrong way, he could get kind of vicious and feisty - at the same time, it took a lot to rub Daniel the wrong way. He could count on his hands just how many times he actually lost it on someone and that mostly because someone had done something to someone he cared about, not someone done directly to him. Oh so nobel, that was Daniel for you.
Right about now, Daniel knew that being the nice guy was not going to help him in winning over Olivia Dupont. From what he had seen of her boyfriend, she liked men who were cold and reserved, kind of like herself. There was no way she seemed interested in someone like Daniel, so outgoing and happy, someone who knew how to make someone smile with a few choice words. Looking at Olivia and the way that she was looking at him did not give him any confidence that she wanted him to be there. Her response only confirmed his doubt, but instead of showing his hurt and rejection, he simply smirked back and shook his head, "Alright, smart ass." he replied simply before he leaned back in his seat and placed his hands on his thighs, stretching out his back before he leaned forward again and looked around the room, "It's amazing that you manage all of these people and they actually listen to you." he explained and turned to look at her once more, "It's really amazing, what you do." he added and gave her a soft nod.
After he had offered his help, he honestly didn't think that she would take it from him; she seemed far too proud to let someone like him help her with anything. So it caught him off guard when she stated that he could and that he needed to follow her. Like a lost puppy, she stood up and did just that, stopping by the amps that she wanted him to help her lift. Looking at them, he took a step forward and examined them, "Let's see here..." he murmured to himself before he watched her put the trolley under the amp. Leaning down, he picked up the amp all by himself and placed it on the trolley, "This one, too?" he asked as he grabbed the other one and put it beside the first. Dusting off his hands, he looked at the amps with a smirk and put his hands on his hips, "That should do it." he stated and looked up at her. He could tell that she probably didn't expect that sort of strength from him, not many people did. That was why he was such a good body guard, so when people actually tried something, he could shock people at how strong he was so that they wouldn't try anything else, "Anything else you need help with?" he asked before he looked around the room, seeing a couple people staring at him in slight shock. Sure, she was perfectly capable of being nice, but that was usually with people she knew well, and trusted. Her friends back home and her family were about as far as her patience stretched. She even got snappy with Liam at time, but that was more to do with the stress the tour was putting on her than the fact he got on her nerves. Like everyone, he did tend to make her a little annoyed, but deep down Olivia knew she cared for him. Maybe she didn't love him, but she was definitely still infatuated with him. And without Liam, Olivia would have no one to actually have a civilized conversation with on tour. She'd be all alone. And that scared her more than anything else.
Daniel's compliment, or amazement, at the fact Olivia did her job so well made her raise an eyebrow. It was, of course, because she was so good at her job that Olivia had nobody she could consider a friend on the tour. She was worried that people may not take her seriously, and so, she had to be bossy, controlling and pretty much insanely obsessed with having everything perfect. She was a perfectionist by nature, but the work she did pushed that into overdrive. It turned Olive into a control freak, and the fact that it was admirable had never even crossed her mind. Nevertheless, she felt oddly flattered by the fact Daniel found it so. And that just confused her.
Watching Daniel lean down to pick up the amp, Olivia's eyebrows furrowed together. "You'll hurt yourself." |
[/color] she stated, more concerned about putting a bodyguard out of action than the fact Daniel seemed intent on proving himself to her. As he lifted them, and seemingly with little effort, Olivia felt her blue eyes widen in surprise. She had no idea how strong he was, but as she watched him lift the second amp, she could see just how strong he really was. Her head tilted to the side as she watched him, once again puzzled by him. She knew that she'd have no hope of lifting the amps on her own, yet Daniel could lift them so easily. She was still staring when he turned around, her hand holding the unused trolley. Clearing her throat, Olivia was glad to see she wasn't the only shocked one. "Um,"[/color] she started, looking around the room aimlessly for a second. Everything seemed to be getting done without their help, so she turned her eyes back on Daniel. "I think that's it, actually. Everyone else seems to have everything covered."[/color] she said, her tone civilized for once, rather than cutting or harsh. At a loss for what to do, she slumped against the wall, crossing her arms over her chest, making sure people returned to working after seeing Daniel lifting amps like they weighed next to nothing. Running a hand through her hair, Olivia listened in on her headset again. Amazingly, everything was going well, despite the rocky start to the night. She stood still for a moment, closing her eyes slowly. It was then that she realized just how tired she was. "I want to sleep."[/color] she admitted absentmindedly, not caring if Daniel, or everyone backstage, heard her. With nobody to yell at and nothing else to do, Olivia was fighting hard against the urge to slide down the wall to sit on the ground and take a nap. Although she knew she couldn't sleep, she lowered herself to the ground, taking a moment to relax again while she had the chance.
