A QUICK INTERVIEW

INTERVIEWER: Olivia! Hi, it's great to meet you.
Olivia: Likewise. I'm surprised you want to interview me at all. I'm hardly interesting.

I: Come now, don't be so hard on yourself. Mind telling us a little about yourself?
O: Well, it's true. I'm Olivia Marcelle Dupont, twenty one years of age. Currently, I work for a record company, and at the moment I'm working as the Backstage Manager on a tour. It's surprisingly enjoyable.

I: Backstage Manager, huh? Isn't twenty one a little young to be doing that?
O: [laughs] No, not really. I'm quite bossy when I want to be, see. And everyone backstage knows they have a job to do. Of course, there's the odd drunk musician, or clueless technician, but once I start yelling, everyone stands at attention, sober or no.

I: I see... I've heard rumors that since the owner of the company you work for is actually your uncle, that actually helped you land the job?
O: Well, does it matter? I do my job, do it well, and that's that. I have the same qualifications as many of the other tour staff, and if familial connections help me land a job in the recession, I don't see the problem.

I: Easy tiger. Now, since you work on a music tour, do you play any instruments?
O: I play piano, on occasion. It's a way for me to just sit back and relax at the end of the day and take out my frustrations on the keys. I've tried learning guitar once or twice, but it never stuck. So, just piano for now. I am rather handy with electronics and the like, so I can help out the technicians backstage if they need an extra hand, but I can't actually play anything.

I: Interesting. So where are you from? Where do you call home?
O: I grew up in Denver, Colorado, but I actually have an apartment in Los Angeles now. I've lived in New York City for a few years, since I went to college at Columbia, but Denver's still very much my home. I visit every now and then, because my mother insists, and family's important, you know? But L.A is where I live. There's not much of a difference, but it's there.

I: Right. Now, personality-wise, you seem to be strong, intelligent, and rather independe-
O: What do you mean by' seem to be'?
I: Well, is it all true? Are you really the strong woman you appear to be?
O: Yes. How else would I be able to manage men twice my size, and order around dozens and dozens of people? Honestly, these questions are a bit ridiculous...

I: [clears throat] Okay. Surely someone as good-looking as you has a man on her arm? Any juicy details you'd care to share?
O: Nope. As in, I'm not going to share anything with you. I have a guy, he's great, and that's all there is to it. Capiche?

I: Right, okay. So what do you like?
O: In a person, or...
I: In general.
O: Oh, well... I like food. Not so much cooking it, but I eat a lot. I like working. I'm a total workaholic. You have to get a crowbar to pry me away from it sometimes. I enjoy exercising. I run everyday, it's routine. I like things being done right the first time, and I get mad when things aren't done the way I wanted them to be done. I really like dogs. I want one so bad, but with work I don't have the time to look after one. Despite popular belief, I do enjoy my days off. When I'm not worrying about what's going on without me being there. It's impossible for me just to forget about work. The only place I can really relax, I think, is the beach. I can just sit back on the sand, lie in the sun, and do nothing. All day. It's probably why I love my apartment so much. It's literally a ten minute walk to the beach. And I really like kids.

I: Very nice. Now how about some dislikes?
O: I hope you're comfortable... I can't stand incompetence, or excuses for incompetence. Yeah, I'm a hard bitch. [laughs] I don't like birds, or fast food. I'm a vegetarian, so obviously, meat's off the menu. I hate feeling inadequate, or vulnerable, which is probably why I act like a bit of a snobby cow ninety percent of the time. I don't like trusting other people to do my job. Mostly because they screw it up, so I don't have a lot of days off. But that's okay. I dislike... chewing gum. Makes people look like a cow when they chew it. Idle chatter is something I'm not very good at, so I prefer to get straight to the point. I like people to do the same. I think that's about it. There's more, but nothing major comes to mind.

I: So what's your family like?
Big. Very big. There's my mother and father, of course, who are both lawyers. My grandmother has always lived with us for as long as I can remember. She's a seamstress, very talented. I have five siblings, and I'm number four. Three boys, two girls. We've all gone through college, with the youngest still there. We have an accountant, architect, professor, and an aspiring doctor all in my family. And then we were always really close with my uncle and aunt, who, as you know, own a record company. They never had any kids, so us five were quite spoiled by them. Mom's an amazing cook, and Dad loves cars, so I guess we all sort of learnt to balance work with our hobbies. Except for me, I didn't really pay attention to that one. But we are all very loving, and get together every Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is fun.

I: That sounds lovely. Okay, now we're going to play a game. I'll say one thing, you say the first thing that comes to mind. Got it?
O: Ready.
I: Color.
O: Green.
I: Flower.
O: Uhh... Lilies.
I: Food.
O: Ice Cream.
I: City.
O: Buildings?
I: Last one: Music
O: Work. [laughs]

I: Alrighty, that's it. I can't think of anymore questions. Thanks for the interview!
O: Not a problem.

10 THINGS ABOUT OLIVIA

• she's not as bitchy as she might appear at first. she's a bit of a snob, and a bit irritable, but once she warms up to you, olivia's actually really sweet and a bit of a dork.
• she's a romantic at heart. just don't point it out to her, otherwise she'll yell at you. and that isn't good. she's kind of a noob at the whole love game, too.
• the reason she's so uptight most of the time is because of her job. because she's so young, she's determined to prove herself and ensure people think she does a good job, rather than saying she only got the job because her uncle gave it to her.
• she adores food. the quickest way to becoming friends with olivia is having food on hand. no lies.
• she absolutely hates small talk. get straight to the point, or she will make you. or brush you off as being annoying. either way.
• Olivia's favorite color is green. It reminds her of her bedroom in Denver.
• there are times when she really gets annoyed with her current boyfriend. sometimes, she wishes he'd break up with her so she didn't have to do it. at other times, she thinks the world of him.
• she's rather insecure. about herself, about work, about everything. she does her best to cover it up by throwing everything she has into her work, and exercising to keep her rather lovely figure. she does binge, however, like everyone does.
• she enjoys parties, but is completely drug and alcohol free. she feels they are the only place where she can truly let loose. however, she only attends them on occasion, and usually works late into the evening.
• she took dancing lessons right up until she was eighteen. in her spare time, she enjoys practicing, as well as playing piano, running and going to the beach. of course, her spare time is very, very limited. but it's the thought of relaxing that counts, right?
