Built in 1894, St. Francis Preparatory was a school that every parent wanted
to send their child to. The parents of Sun Valley, Nebraska, who were very
wealthy, had no problem pulling out their checkbooks to help fund the new
school. St. Francis Preparatory started out as just a regular public school, but
unlike most, this school held very high standards when it came to education.
They did not tolerate students cutting classes and not doing their school work.
If students did not follow the rules they would not be allowed in St. Francis. After
a few years of the school running smoothly the dean got the idea to turn the
school into a boarding school, making the parents pay to have their children at
the school for the entire school year except for holidays. The parents quickly
agreed and several new wings were built onto the school making it bigger than before.
Only the wealthiest of families sent their children to St. Francis Preparatory now.
Everything was running smoothly until the stock market crash of 1929. The
school lost so much money during that time that they had to go back to letting
any old student in. Prices on tuition had dropped so much that even low income
families could now afford it. This was when the Populars and Non-Populars were
born. The Populars were the students that came from the wealthy families. They
were rich, good looking, and most of all popular. The Non-Populars were the
students that came from poorer families, or the students that weren't good looking
enough, or cool enough to fit into the Populars. If a student didn't fit into the
Popular ranks they were shunned and forced to slum the ranks of the Non-Populars.
The Populars developed a set of rules entailing that they were not allowed to
date Non-Populars or even be seen with them unless they had to. Every few
years or so a new rule is added to the last, but older rules are never taken away.
These rules are still in place today and have never been questioned. But when
secrets start to come out and chaos begins to reign supreme will the rules
change? Will equality be gained between the Populars and Non-Populars?
