[/justify]WERE HERE WITH DALE SANTIAGO FROM THE BAND DANCE FLOOR SOCIETY TODAY FOR OUR INTERVIEW.
uh, hey, dale here. you know who i am already hopefully and if you don't i'm the drummer for that band named dance floor society. we're shit. don't listen to us. but come to our shows so we can have good food tonight and not just one dollar burgers from a rat infested kitchen, i'm too classy for that shit.
SO DALE, WHAT'S THE BACKGROUND BEHIND YOUR NAME? WHY 'DALE'?
uhh, my name? well, it was my father's name and his father's too. um, i have that weird 'the third' thing in my name.. so my full name is dale douglas santiago the third. the cool thing about is that it sounds like some kind of knight or king like name. some of my old high school friends called me knight for that reason, it's really cool. well... i think at least.. that's really lame, isn't it? other friends call me ted because i'm the sort to cuddle with any of my friends. but i know that 'dale' means "valley" and douglas means "black water." i've never really known what santiago means, i think it's spanish and means "st. james" but i'm not sure. you'll have to look it up.
WHEN DID YOU START LEARNING HOW TO PLAY THE DRUMS?
that's a good question. when did i start learning how to play the drums? well, i've been playing since i was born i guess. i have been for as long as i remember; the earliest memory i have is playing a 'the beatles' song on the drums. i think it was 'help!' but my memory isn't that good. i was at one of the highest grades by the time i was twelve. i just loved to play music so when i was done with the drums--i did carry on with them, i mean just get as high in the grades as i'd wanted--i started to learn the piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, anything that i could get my hands on i would learn. i even started to learn how to play the bloody bag pipes! when the band started i pretty much knew i wanted to be on stage from then on.
THE BAGPIPES? I KNOW HOW TO PLAY THEM! HAHA, ANYWAY, WHAT WAS YOUR LIFE GROWING UP OTHER THAN YOUR MUSICAL PURSUIT? FAMILY? FRIENDS?
i'll start off with the fact i had two older brothers, one older sister and a younger sister growing up. their names in order are austin, kennedy, devalyn--this is where i come in--and lastly we have thalia. they're all cool for siblings. austin and kennedy are twins and are both 25, devalyn is 24, thalia is 18. she just left high school. personally, i don't see why one of my older brothers wasn't called dale. maybe they just wanted to have a non-twin son for it because it would be weird. i don't get my parents logic sometimes. oh, and i have a three year old son named donovan.
so with that in mind i think you will instantly know that having five kids in a space of seven years is tough for two people to handle. it was. my mom had to take on two jobs to make sure we had enough to feed everyone, we'd often go around to our grand parents after school so we wouldn't be alone at home without our parents. on both sides my grandparents were rich though so i didn't see why my parents didn't take the money, i just guess they didn't want the help. though my grandparents were more family anyway than my mom and dad, so they just raised me as their own i guess. they were the ones that bought me instruments and music lessons; i was lucky to have them at that age. at points of my life they did all pass on, all of them have now, the last was when i was fifteen. that was when my parents just crumbled and just lost everything they had. they inherited money but they were never the same. they had the money but they never payed bills or anything. soon enough we were kicked to the streets because of this. i managed to get my parents to rent out a garage for my drum kit and anything else we wanted to keep safe, after that we moved in to an apartment in one of the rougher areas of la. it was okay; life was better before. i just wished my parents had been able to keep it together. life changed when i got my high school girlfriend, georgia, who was my fiancee at one point too. we were together for three years from the end of sophomore year, and at nineteen we got engaged. the reason i proposed wasn't because she was nearly nine months pregnant, i honestly loved her. i-it's kind of ironic how that about a week later we were in a car crash, isn't it? well, um, she died a few minutes after donovan was born and it's pretty self explanatory from there. i don't really want to get in to that, sorry... it's still a touchy subject.
I'M SORRY TO HEAR THAT. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN FIVE TO TEN WORDS?
um... guarded, for sure, i don't trust anyone unless they're close to me. that's pretty much a big describing factor of me. i'm quiet and reserved too with new people; i don't warm up to people easily so i'm generally not the sort to share stuff easily. um... i'm motherly to people i know, i'm the sort to be the person you cuddle with when you're upset or something. i liked to cook growing up so i guess i'm okay at it, so i bake cookies for anyone who wants me to. i guess i'm really motherly actually, for a guy at least. what else? i'm just the sort to trust you if you're able to trust me. i'm a loyal friend, i don't like to upset friends unless it's important. what else? i don't know, i'm sensitive still from the death of my fiancee despite it being three years ago now. and by sensitive i mean hurt easily, probably why i'm so guarded. i'm not very quick minded at all, i can't really make a joke easily. i'm just the friend who listens to you and tries to help you solve your problems.
WHAT ARE YOUR HABITS AND HOBBIES?
for hobbies do video games count? i play a lot of fallout and just general games like that. um... music in general is my main 'hobby' i guess. it's my profession and stuff, but i like to play the guitar when i'm on my own, make songs and whatever. i don't just play the drums. er... i'm a fan of playing sports too, any kind, but my favourites are probably football or ice hockey. i'm just a general guy when it comes to these things. going on to habits, i drum my fingers on tables a lot when i'm bored or nervous, same with when i bite my nails. i tap my feet a lot too. apparently it's do do with drummers instinct? i don't know, all i know is that tap my feet a lot.
THANKS FOR THAT DALE. CYA NEXT TIME.
